Watch out for slugs!! Our lettuces serve as a sort of Gentleman's Club for the better sort of slug. They are always there (mostly in the smoking room) chatting amongst themselves. I have to carefully wash each leaf, mindful of their devious machinations...
So far, so good on the slug front. We still have aphids though. Our Lady Bugs have their work cut out for them. But the idea of a slug with a Holmes-style pipe sounds like the money shot!!
Wow, looks yummy! I tried Swiss Chard this year - it was awesome! We still are getting a few sprouting up, but the lettuce was pretty short lived due to the heat we've had.
